1942 Jiu-Jitsu Instructional Booklet

American Jiu-jitsu 001

A couple of months ago at an estate sale I found an instructional booklet titled¬†Edward L. Allen’s System of American Jiu-Jitsu. It is copyrighted 1942 and is written by Edward L. Allen, a Jiu-Jitsu instructor who taught the techniques to law enforcement officers as well as civilians. I know almost nothing about Jiu-Jitsu, but the pictures in this book made it hard to pass up.

Mr. Edward Allen does all of his own stunts. Each move described in the book is demonstrated by the author who is wearing a suit and tie. Move over, JT. There’s a new heartthrob in town.

The guy in the white shirt could easily combat this move by licking Edward Allen’s hand. It worked in middle school.

I would like to see a video of them demonstrating these moves. I’ll bet it ends with the guy in the white shirt suing for medical expenses.

Here, they are doing the¬†foxtrot, but the guy in the white shirt said something nasty about Edward Allen’s mother, and bodies hit the floor.

Hope you all enjoyed those photos as much as I did!
